Postsecondary Access for Latino Middle-grades Students

Tools for Schools

PALMS provides practical, research-based resources for school and community leaders whose work connects them with Latino middle-grades students. Our newest publication, Tools for Latino Family Outreach: Supporting Student Success in the Middle Grades and Beyond, can assist school leaders in building or strengthening an outreach program that targets Latino families.

The tools were developed after PALMS conducted its study on best practices for reaching out to Latino families, and the findings of that study are incorporated into the toolkit materials. The tools were also field tested for usability in five middle-grades schools across the U.S. We found that even educators with well-established parent outreach programs gained new ideas and inspiration from using the tools. The tools can be downloaded in Portable Document Format.

We invite you to check back periodically as we add information about how school leaders in two selected middle schools bring the tools to life! In Fall 2007, PALMS launched its first cohort of Outreach Leaders, a community of practitioners who are using the PALMS tools to increase parent participation in their schools.
